Subtle but Impactful Daily Branding Options for SLPs

1. Refer to therapy as either Speech Therapy (when in reference to people working on speech disorders) or Language Therapy (when in reference to people working on language disorders)

2. Wear your credentials (either embroidered or on a name tag).

3. Sign everything related to your work as an SLP with your full credentials (this adds validity and can be a conversation starter).

4. Use room décor that shows the scientific nature of your job (e.g., model heads, posters of the larynx, framed pictures of the brain, etc.)

5. Have your lab coat present, even if you don’t wear it. It is a reminder to yourself and others that you are a healthcare clinician and can also be a conversation starter.

6. Use accurate terminology but also explain it and don’t assume people won’t be able to grasp it. That assumption is dangerous and discriminatory.

7. Ask others not to leave the room as you share your reports or progress updates on the people in your care. Many learn what we do by listening to what we have done.
